Llwindi festival in Chikanta10/09/2011
Each year the community of Chikanta celebrates 'being together' with the community members and representatives of the various stakeholders within the district. Macha Works is invited by Chief Chikanta. This year Macha Works presented the idea to the chief to implement a community wide local grid based on bio-gas. Chikanta is called the 'maize belt' in Zambia because of the significant amount of maize that the local farmers produce. This provides economic power but without communication and electricity it is hard to make the next step. The lack of access to electricicity is presented as the most important inhibitor for development of the community of Chikanta during the festival.
