The radio station of Macha is LIVE again. The deejays are broadcasting again within a completely new building, 2 ½ years after the fire in the Vision Community Center.
The donor Media Trust Fund shipped the required radio equipment to Macha, roughly 1 year later than committed. The deejays of Radio Macha started to broadcast directly when the equipment was installed. The communities in and around Macha were so eager to listen to the radio, within hours the team of deejays were bombarded with thank you and celebration messages from distances up to 60 kilometers away.
The radio station has been by far the most visible project in Zambia that Macha Works supports. The radio provides for example information about health, agriculture and commerce, but also entertainment to rural people that live isolated and are not connected to any kind of source of information.
Radio Macha is one of the vital parts of the Vision Community Center (VCC). The VCC started the development of Macha in 2004. In November 2007 the VCC burnt down due to an electrical problem within the radio station. Many Dutch donors, organisations and friends of Macha have contributed to the project.
It took eventually 2 ½ years to re-build the radio station. But it is great that Radio Macha is live again serving the 80.000 people living in and around Macha.
