Talented individuals from the local villages play a key role in the Macha Works’ approach. They represent their villages and together with important stakeholders, they determine which projects have priority. They are also responsible for implementation of the project and sustainability of the activity. Macha showed that a wide integrated approach is necessary to stimulate structural rural development. This approach targets investments in health care, education and training, entrepreneurship and agricultural projects. On top of this, infrastructural investments were made with regard to communication, transport, energy and financial services.
