Macha Radio the only source of information for people living in communities around Macha. There is no national radio and no mobile network coverage to reach these people. Radio Macha fills that gap by offering music and informative programs about health (including HIV-AIDS from Macha Hospital), agriculture and activities relevant to the people who live around the hospital. Radio Macha has recently received a license for 7 years from the Zambian government which formalizes the status of Radio Macha. They wouldlike to extend the programming now. They also would like expand the number of hours of broadcasting to12 hours per day. A generator is needed that gives a good quality of electricity, captures fluctuations in electricity, especially during the frequent interruptions of the national electricity network during the rainy season. These fluctuations are very bad for the expensive equipment of the radio station.
