The Jatropha project in Macha is a significant first step to make the community self sufficient in energy by growing the tropical tree in large quantity. In recent years Jatropha has been planted at the farm of 3 km2 with in total of 750,000 trees..Being self sufficient is important because the distribution points for diesel are located far away from most isolated communities. This diesel is delivered regularly by trucks and is imported from the Middle East, a far from environmentally friendly solution. The fruits of Jatropha bio-oil can be squeezed to bio oil and is directly ready for the generators to produce Electricity. The plantation can be extended to 5 km2 for the planting of other crops with which energy can be generated. Do you want to contribute to the testing of new crops that generate energy locally out of existing crops?
