The surgery facilities in the hospital of Chitokoloki are excellent. Many Zambians and people from other countries travel far to the hospital for complicated surgery. The national Electricity grid has not reached the community of Chitokoloki. The hospital lies hundreds of kilometers away from the nearest connection. The hospital and the operating rooms are operational for only 4.5 hours per day and are fuelled by an expensive generator. The cost of diesel for the generator quickly amounts to $ 40,000 per year and the diesel is brought by truck, so not a very environmental friendly solution. The community of Chitokoloki is based along the Zambezi river and a medium sized water turbine could deliver ongoing electricity for 24 hours. Next to the hospital the community and new internet cafe will benefit from the structural availability of electricity.
