Jatropha bio oil for farmers
What would you do without electricity at home? Only 2% of the inhabitants of rural Zambia are connected to the national electricity network. Most of the families in Macha have no access to lighting and therefore the children read school books during the evening by the fire. And the family is using wood for cooking. Macha Works starts an ambitious project, a project to make the local farmers self-sufficient with regard to energy with Jatropha Curcas. Jatropha is an interesting new crop because the oil in the fruit of tree cab be pressed to bio-oil. Jatropha offers the farmers the opportunity to grow there own energy supply. After three years, the fruit contains oil and then for the next 40 years. The availability of oil is important for the further development of the village and the farmers. Mechanization of farm activities can have major impact on the productivity. Sponsor a farmer with the purchase of Jathropha seeds. 1.000 seeds will produce roughly 150 liters oil per year.
